Vermont defeats Maryland-Baltimore County 79-60

BALTIMORE — Garvey Young had his first career double-double with a career-high 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead Vermont to a 79-60 win over Maryland-Baltimore County on Friday and sweep the season series.

The Catamounts (17-8, 8-3 America East Conference) never trailed and led by as many as 24 points in winning their third straight game. The contest was originally sheduled for Saturday afternoon, but moved to Friday because of expected snow.

Marqus Blakely and Maurice Joseph added 13 points each for Vermont.

The Catamounts led 29-11 with 8:06 left in the first half and 37-27 at the break after shooting 52 percent from the floor (13-for-25) and holding a 19-9 rebounding edge. Vermont held the Retrievers (2-21, 1-9) to 33.3 percent shooting (8-for-24) in the second half.

The Catamounts also won 73-58 on Jan. 2.

Chris De La Rosa led UMBC with 18 points and Chauncey Gilliam had 15.
