Saint Peter’s edges Canisius 73-72 in OT

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Wesley Jenkins had 25 points and 10 rebounds as Saint Peter’s defeated Canisius 73-72 in overtime on Sunday.

Jenkins also hit a free throw to give the Peacocks (14-10, 9-5 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) a 73-70 lead with 11 seconds left in OT and help them win for the second time in three games.

Saint Peter’s took a 66-65 lead on Yvon Raymond’s layup and then increased it to 69-65 on Jenkins’ 3 with 3:11 left in OT. Tomas Vazquez-Simmons’ 3 cut the deficit to 69-68, but the Peacocks’ Nick Leon came back with a 3 for a 72-68 lead with 1:56 left.

Jenkins and Leon, who scored 16 points, each hit four 3-pointers as Saint Peter’s finished 11-for-24 from beyond the arc (45.8 percent). Darius Conley had 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Peacocks.

Frank Turner had 23 points and 11 rebounds for Canisius (11-14, 6-8). Vazquez-Simmons scored 16 and Julius Coles had 10 points.
