Longhorns lose G Balbay to knee injury

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas point guard Dogus Balbay will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL in his left knee.

Longhorns athletic trainer Eric Fry announced the loss on Monday. An MRI was performed after Balbay was injured during Saturday’s victory at Texas Tech.

Balbay played in all 27 games and made 22 starts. He was averaging a team-high 3.9 assists along with 3.8 points and 3.2 rebounds. He was third on the team in steals (35).

Balbay left Saturday’s game early in the first half. He appeared to slip and injure his left knee before being called for traveling. He did not put any weight on the leg as he was helped off the court.

Balbay, a junior, had surgery on his right knee during his freshman season.
