Dumars: Pistons must rebuild softened roster

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — Joe Dumars knows what went wrong with the Detroit Pistons last season.

Now he just has to find a way to fix it.

The Pistons’ president of basketball operations had his annual postseason meeting with the media Tuesday, nearly six weeks after the last game of a 27-55 season. Dumars says his team has lost its toughness.

Dumars also discussed the ways he can fix that, starting with the No. 7 pick in next month’s draft and continuing through free agency and trades. He also knows that he has to change the attitudes of some of the players he still has, starting with last year’s free-agent signings, Charlie Villanueva and Ben Gordon.
