Maxwell fans 10, TCU advances with win over Baylor
FORT WORTH, Texas — Steven Maxwell struck out 10 in eight shutout innings to lead TCU into the super regionals with a 9-0 victory over Baylor in the Fort Worth Regional on Sunday night.
The Horned Frogs (49-11) have won nine consecutive games, set a school record for wins in a season and gave coach Jim Schlossnagle his 300th victory with the Frogs. They’ll play at Texas in the super regionals.
TCU broke open a scoreless game with three fifth-inning runs as Taylor Featherston hit a two-run triple, then scored on Bryan Holaday’s sacrifice fly.
The biggest chance for Baylor (36-24) to score came when Brooks Pinckard led off the fourth with a triple, one of three hits against Maxwell. But Maxwell (11-1) struck out Cal Towey and got a double play. Maxwell hasn’t allowed a run in 22 2-3 innings dating to May 15.
