PATNA - The Queen’s Baton Relay for the Commonwealth Games arrived in this Bihar capital Wednesday amid festivities and euphoria among people, particularly schoolchildren and sportspersons.

“It was welcomed by beating of drums and songs by hundreds of children,” said an official of the state’s olympic association.

Governor Devanand Konwar would flag off the baton at 5 p.m. from Rajendra Chowk near Raj Bhawan. The baton would pass through important places here before reaching S.K. Memorial Hall where a cultural function would be organised in the night.

Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Jain said elaborate security arrangements have been made for smooth passage of the baton.

The baton travelled nearly 170,000 km through 70 Commonwealth countries before arriving in India for the Games Oct 3-14 in New Delhi.
