NEW YORK CITY (GaeaTimes.com)- Indiana Pacers second round pick Lance Stephenson is making news for all the wrong reasons lately. The young basketball player was arrested on Sunday after he assaulted his girlfriend Jasmine Williams, 21 after the couple were involved in an ugly tussle which was followed by the player pushing the woman down a flight of stairs. According to sources, after the Indiana Pacers rookie pushed the woman, she fell tumbling down and sustained injuries to her head and neck. Cops have confirmed that the woman was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where preliminary treatment was administered to her.

The authorities have divulged that the 19-year-old Indiana Pacers rookie is now facing charges of third-degree assault while harassment and menacing charges have also been slammed against him. Moreover, a source has stated that the charge of possessing weapons has also been levied against Lance Stephenson but a spokesperson failed to specify the kind of weapon involved. In the meanwhile, Indiana Pacers president Larry Bird also responded to the incident by releasing a statement which said that the team was “aware of a situation involving Lance Stephenson” and was collecting information in this regard.

Experts have revealed that owing to the serious nature of the charges that have been slammed against Lance Stephenson, the player might have to face the back-lash from Indiana Pacers which is known to be hypersensitive to the off-court behavior of its players in the past few years. The 19-year-old player was initially considered for first round by the team but was later dropped to the second round for issues involving him which included a 2008 incident in which he allegedly sexually abused a teenager.
