WASHINGTON (GaeaTimes.com)- A federal grand jury indicted former Major Baseball League pitcher Roger Clemens for lying to the Congress about using-performance enhancing drugs during a testimony that he gave during hearings about two years ago. The multiple charges that the seven-time Cy Young Award winner faces include making false statements, obstruction to the Congress and perjury with respect to administering performance-enhancing drugs which specifically includes steroids as well as human growth hormone (HGH).

According to the indictment, Roger Clemens was responsible for corruptly influencing, obstructing as well as impeding the proper exercise of the inquiry that was being conducted as part of the probe by a Committee of the United States House of Representatives. The perjury charges have been levied against the 48-year-old former baseball player with regard to the testimony that he gave before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on February 13, 2008 while he faces the charges of making false statements in front of congressional investigators in a hearing that was held few days ago on February 5 in the same year.

However, despite the indictment, Roger Clemens has emphasized that he is innocent through his account on the popular social networking site Twitter. The former pitcher, who has been associated with teams such as Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays and the Houston Astros, revealed through the micro-blogging site that he has never used steroids or HGH during his Major Baseball League career. At the same time, Roger Clemens also reiterated that he never lied to the Congress and is going to challenge the accusations that have been leveled against him.
