NEW YORK (GaeaTimes.com)- With some of the biggest stars facing an early exit in the US Open this year, the stage is set for some of the young talents in tennis to make some big upset. Top seeds of the likes of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, however, have shown little mercy so far in the tournament. On the women’s front Maria Sharapova and Caroline Woznaiki have looked almost invincible in the tournament so far. The latest updates from the prestigious Open tell us that Maria Sharapova has beaten Beatrice Capra in one of the most one sided matches in the tournament so far. The 6-0, 6-0 scores prove that the tournament could be the comeback vehicle for the leggy Russian beauty.

Rafael Nadal was pitted against the 23 ranked Feliciano Lopez. The match was touted to be one of the highlights of the day with both players looking to make it past the fourth round clash. Rafael Nadal, however, proved to be too good for the fellow Spaniard as he dominated the game from the beginning to end it at 6-3, 6-4, 6-4. This week in the US Open there was also the controversial game between Noval Djokovik and Philipp Petzschner where a brawl broke out on the upper deck and the police had to intervene.

Kim Clijsters on the other hand, has made her way into the semifinals with a win over Australian Samantha Stosur. The match was hard fought by both the players but finally Kim Clijsters showed her experience and took the final set 6-3 in spite of the opponent playing well in the second set for the 7-5 win. Venus Williams also added to the list of semifinalists in the US Open with a relatively comfortable win over Italian Francesca Schiavone (7-6, 6-4).
