MUMBAI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The Kochi franchise of the Indian Premier League (IPL) ultimately got the green signal from the Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI) on Sunday to participate in the fourth edition of the tournament. The decision of the BCCI to permit the Kochi team to play in IPL 4 ultimately brings to an end the speculation and uncertainty about the fate of the team which has found itself amidst extensive controversy earlier this year. The team finally went under the purview of the IPL governing body after it approved of its ownership structure, giving it the go-ahead to participate in the fourth edition of the Indian Premier League which kicks off from April next year.
The final decision about whether the Kochi IPL team can take part in the fourth segment of the tournament was postponed for a period of one week following the new membership pattern that the governing council received last Sunday. After a meeting was held earlier today by the IPL governing council which also included the owners of the Kochi consortium, the IPL governing body affirmed that was content with the submissions made by the team.
The news that Kochi team would be competing in IPL 4 was officially confirmed through a press release that was issued by BCCI Secretary N. Srinivasan which read that the IPL governing council hs decided that the Franchisee Kochi Cricket Pvt. Ltd. would be allowed to play in IPL from 2011 as it has satisfactorily responded to the notice that was issued to it by the BCCI. It has confirmed by BCCI that IPL 4 which would begin from April 4, would comprise of eight teams.
