Lakers set for downsized championship parade in LA
LOS ANGELES — Fans are streaming into downtown Los Angeles six hours before as many as 2 million Lakers fans are expected for the team’s NBA championship parade.
Police Chief Charlie Beck told reporters Monday that his officers will be out in force along the two-mile parade route and he expects a safe celebration.
Beck has a warning for troublemakers planning a replay of Thursday night lawlessness after the Lakers’ victory over the Boston Celtics in Game 7 at the Staples Center. It’s the team’s 16th championship title.
Beck says, “If you’re coming here to vandalize, if you’re coming here to disrupt, well, then you’re going to stay because we are going to put you in jail.”
The Lakers will be aboard a flatbed float rolling from the Staples Center to the University of Southern California at 11 a.m.
