SAN FRANCISCO (GaeaTimes.com)- The Saturday baseball game between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the San Francisco Giants took a bad turn when the outfielder of the latter team, Eugenio Velez was hit with a foul ball at the dugout. The player got injured when a foul ball from San Francisco Giants Pat Burrell hit his head hard. Eugenio Velez, who immediately fell on ground, was taken out of the dugout on a stretcher and was admitted to a hospital where a CT scan was carried out. Eugenio Velez was struck on the left side of his head and is to remain in the local hospital overnight for observation and also for further tests.
The San Francisco Giants Manager Bruce Bochy said to media sources that the CT scan reports of Eugenio Velez have been negative. Reports claim that the doctors have also not been able to find any kind of skull fractures or injuries. The manager of the team said that Eugenio Velez is doing fine and that he had never lost consciousness while being taken to the hospital. However, the manager maintained that the player was no doubt hit hard by the ball and that he was “a little out of it”. Bruce Bochy added that Eugenio Velez was speaking at the hospital, which proves that his condition is not severe.
The incident took place at the fourth innings of the Saturday game while Eugenio Velez was seated at the dugout. Bruce Bochy said that the player had his views covered while the foul ball shot by Pat Burrell flew towards the dugout. Eugenio Velez could not react in time and was hit by the ball. He was however immediately attended by the team’s physicians.
