SAN FRANCISCO (GaeaTimes.com)- Running back Brian Westbrook has ultimately got a new team. Two-times Pro Bowler, Brian Westbrook has been signed by the San Francisco 49ers to a one-year contract. The news was made public by the team on Monday at its official website. As per the declaration, the deal will pay $1.2 million to the player with incentives that could probably earn him a total of $2.5 million.
The singing of Brian Westbrook by the San Francisco 49ers comes just after Glen Coffee declared his retirement from the game. Glen Coffee, who was to take the position of the second running back in the team, has left a void that perhaps Brian Westbrook will be able to fill up with his impressible run, catch and block records. Brian Westbrook will get the opportunity to pair with power runner Frank Gore. Brian Westbrook is famously known for his catches out of the backfield and in his eight season tenure with the Philadelphia Eagles, the player has been able to create Franchise records in touches and in yards from scrimmage. He has 9,785 yards from scrimmage and 1,734 touches to his credit.
Mike Singletary, the Coach of the San Francisco 49ers said to media sources during an introductory news conference that he is thankful the Brian Westbrook was still available at this time of the year and that the management got an option to sing him for the team. As for Brian Westbrook, the player maintained that although he has the ability to carry the load, at present he wants to go back to a position that has “a guy than can share the load”.
