LONDON - A professional club-level goalkeeper in Britain hanged himself after he found out that his fiance was having an affair.

Dale Roberts, 24, was found dead in his flat Tuesday. He was due to play for the Rushden and Diamonds club in an FA Cup Trophy match against Eastwood Town club but failed to turn up for the match, The Sun reported Thursday.

His fiance Lindsey Cowan, 25, raised the alarm after reaching home from work and discovering the door had been locked from inside.

Police were called and Roberts was found dead.

The footballer was very upset since May when he found out that Lindsey was having an affair with his team-mate Paul Terry, the Sun said.

Midfielder Paul, 31, is the brother of Chelsea captain and England footballer John Terry, 30.

Dale told friends that despite her cheating he wanted to “give it another go”. But he could not endure being known as “another Wayne Bridge”.

John Terry allegedly had a fling with Vanessa Perroncel, 34, girlfriend of his former team-mate Wayne Bridge.

“He was embarrassed and was on anti-depressant tablets. He felt he’d lost everything and Lindsey made him look like a fool,” a friend said.
