UAE president grants $2.7 mn for Olympic soccer team

Abu Dhabi, Dec 11 (IANS/WAM) UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has ordered a grant of 10 million dirhams (about $2.7 million) for the players in the national Olympic soccer team and its technical and administrative staff in recognition of their achievements in the international sports arena.

The team recently won a silver medal at the 16th Asian Games held in Guangzhou city, China.

The president also ordered a grant of four million dirhams for the national junior team, their coaches and administrative staff in recognition of their winning of the title in the 7th Gulf championship held recently in Kuwait.

The president’s grants reflected his keenness to support the sports and sportspersons in the country.
